Anne Anderson Home

Alliance Sotheby’s International Realty is excited to welcome our new guest contributor Anne Anderson Home.  Anne is on a mission to make decorating fun! Her posts here will show you how good design doesn’t have to break the bank, and how a little creativity goes a long way. In her opinion (and we tend to agree), the best houses are the ones that have evolved over time and don’t take themselves too seriously.

Anne’s inaugural post features her own personal dining room…..

I am so thrilled to share my finished dining room with you. The biggest challenge I faced was that I wanted to make the room special without it being the only thing you noticed when you walk in the front door. This house is an open concept and the star of the show when you walk in is the view. We are on the Tennessee River and my goal has always been to make that the first thing noticed. So the dining room was a pickle, because I wanted to elevate it’s formality without making it overbearing. I first started with a clean slate by giving everything a fresh coat of white paint.

Now I started adding color gradually. I painted the ceiling a light blue and at first thought that might be just enough color…

I still felt like something was missing…after looking at several different wallpapers and considering stenciling the room myself, I decided to call a professional and have the walls custom painted. It has turned out to be one of my MOST FAVORITE things in the house.

The finished product is a soft, beautiful room that flows with the rest of the house.

Extraordinary Home of the Week

Healing Bluff

Elegance with modern design combine to create Healing Bluff-a rustic mid-century chalet recently featured in Southern Home magazine. Where stunning views of the Tennessee River Gorge vistas restore and heal the soul.

Resting at the edge of the bluff, this 6 acre Elder Mountain estate is surrounded by mountain laurel, immense moss-covered boulders and two streams offering total privacy.

Designed by the renowned Chattanooga architect, Klalus-Peter Nentwig, this incredible home has two stories of towering glass that frame amazing sunsets. This mountain home’s stacked stone fireplace and wood ceilings offer an organic yet modern element as well.

The sleek contemporary kitchen features mid-century reproductions, luxury appliances, designer fixtures and an exquisite selection of marble to serve as the focal point.

A main level master retreat with study provides expansive views and offers complete and luxurious privacy.

Among the many noted features of this property are the multi-purpose rooms with serene views;  the 24′ vaulted ceiling; the spiral staircase leading to the upper loft and bridge walk; media room; terrace level private quest suite; porte cochere; heated in-ground pool and tennis court, just to name a few.

Homewood House | An Inspiration

Classic Elegance and Rich History

Nestled into the rolling hills of East Tennessee on 90 acres is a home inspired by Homewood House.  Homewood House is a living museum located in Baltimore, Maryland and was originally built by Charles Carroll. Charles was the oldest living signer of the Declaration of Independence and he built Homewood House as a wedding gift for his son.

Throughout the home are pieces of history that cannot be repeated nor duplicated. The four large columns at the entrance of the home are made of solid heart pine and were originally part of the Christenberry School.

The informal living space and kitchen are open and spacious. Repurposed features such as the heartpine flooring from Flat Gap Baptist Church coupled with thoughtful and elegant details help create a space that is both luxurious and welcoming.

The master suite provides a moment of reprieve with a sitting area for a more private moment and a bath that is luxurious and refined.

Beautiful gardens, terraces and water features enhance all of the natural beauty of the surrounding East Tennessee hills.

From the hand folded copper cupola from the Christenberry School to the dining room wainscoting from the Park Hotel, Homewood Farm has united the elements of the past with the comforts of today and created a home that is spectacular in both design and detail.

This mountain top home is magical. Resting high with views that go on for days, this home is so inviting!  You feel you are about to step into your own personal fairy tale!

We absolutely love what we do and are so fortunate to be able to showcase the beautiful homes of East Tennessee!

The Dining Room

The designated Dining Room does not have to be formal in its presentation. In the time of open floor plans and casual dining, who says the Dining Room has to be for “special occasions” only?  TV trays or noshing at the kitchen counter suits us all at one time or another. However, remember that gathering around a table does something for the diners other than provide a location. Reflecting, being present, connecting with family or friends, or merely savoring your meal….the Dining Room has a place in your home.
